Practices and traditions that have defined your church experience in the past may be absent here at Calvary Chapel, and you may wonder why. Below you will find answers to address some of these questions.
CCF began as a home fellowship in 2003. As attendance increased we began meeting in local schools because they were the facilities available and large enough to provide the space we needed. Acts 19:9 reminds us that the early church utilized homes as well as a school for bible teaching and gathering. We have purchased twenty five acres on Route 53 and hope to build there as the Lord leads.

Churches have a reputation for being overly interested in money. While we have ministry expenses, our trust is in God to provide resources through the generous gifts of willing hearts. We never want giving to be over-emphasized, obligatory, or from pressure. Therefore, we have chosen to place a simple box in the hallway where people may give their offering to God. He has always met our needs.
We do not have a “membership”. We emphasize a person’s membership in the Body of Christ through the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13). This happens to everyone when they are born again. If your name is not written in the Book of Life, then your church membership will not save you. Your name must be registered in Heaven (Hebrews 12:23). If your name is written in the Book of Life, you are free to fellowship at the place of your choosing. We do not seek ownership of you. We do however maintain a church directory to facilitate communication and relationships between us. The directory form is found in the church bulletin.
We have no opposition to an adult Sunday school time. In the past, we have attempted to implement a time of study and discipleship before the service. It was not well attended and became a time of prayer prior to the service. If an opportunity arose in the future for adult Sunday school it would most certainly be revisited. However the Sunday sermon is much like a Bible study in length, depth, and content. We place a tremendous emphasis on teaching the Word of God, and take people through the entire Bible; verse by verse, chapter by chapter similar to the traditional Sunday school. If you are interested in a small group for format please look into on of the Calvary Chapel Fluvanna home Bible studies.
Music is an important part of our worship. Hebrews 13:15 tells us to “continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God”. That much we can agree on. However there are variety of musical styles, songs, and instruments employed in praise. Calvary Chapel Fluvanna is a fellowship of people diverse in age as well as race and religious background. This can present musical challenges.
The music we utilize is primarily based on the individual skills of those God has brought to this fellowship and gifted for this ministry. The music reflects their unique abilities. At the same time, we do our best to be sensitive to every ones preferences. We attempt to mix contemporary songs and instruments while occasionally including modern arrangements of classic hymns as our praise team is able.
Regardless of style it is vital that our praise is celebratory and reverent with the focus on Jesus and not us.
Simply put, we dress casually because we can!
While we do emphasize modesty in our attire, we celebrate that God is most concerned with what’s on the inside. In fact, God warns us not to treat people differently based on what they wear (James 2). Love God with all your heart, and wear what is most comfortable, modest, and affordable.
Our clothing should not distract us, or others, from the Lord.
